I found this cool application online (click the title and go to "create") that allows you to play with a palette of 5 colors. You can use different schemes (or create your own) and change the brightness levels. You can change the actual hues on the color wheel or on RGB/CYMK/LAB lines. The HSV line allows you to pick hue, saturation/intensity, and value.
