Cultivating Creativity

I have the first edition of the book, but from what I've seen from the other posts, it seems like "Cultivating Creativity" hasn't changed too much. I think it's a funny idea - people generally think of creativity much like they think of talent, that it's inherent and it can't be taught. And to some extent, I think that's true. However, if there was ever a way to break down creativity, I think Stewart did a pretty effective job. I don't think I necessarily learned anything earth-shattering as much as just reaffirmed the way I go about my work and my life. I completely relate to the contradictory nature of being an artist, of being creative. So many times people forget that being creative is more than just having fun. It really requires you to have a heightened self-awareness in order to understand when to play, when to work, what your limits are, how ideas and content relate to you and the people around you... et cetera. I also agree with the previous comments that sometimes Stewart gets a little preachy and maybe discusses things that seem like they are common knowledge. The post-it activity is indeed unnecessary and can be done in your head. But overall, it's worth sitting down and reading as a reminder of how to effectively succeed in using our creativity to its utmost.
