desire

In today's society, it's not uncommon to see a psychiatrist or psychologist on a regular basis. When did this become acceptable? Why is it appropriate to get a psychiatrist's opinion on your life, even though they probably know nothing about you? I am trying to explore ideas involving the use of medication to become "happy". Happiness seems to be a great goal that most people are searching to achieve, and most seem to believe that if they were "normal", they could aquire happiness. By seeing a "head doctor" and possibly using medication to solve all of their problems, a person may never learn how to live a fulfilling and engaging life on their own.
