Jeremiah Artist Statement

In thinking about universal desires, many obvious ideas came to mind. Ideas of basic needs like water, food, attention, love. etc. Yet it took a while for me to realize that all of these only help sustain the most natural desire, life. Life, in a sense, is a positive as well as a negative tropism. This is so because we all want our lives to continue but we will also, almost instinctively, react to dangers that could potentially end our lives. So when i began to think about wanting life to continue, I immediately connected that with wanting to see another or new day. The imagery that is most connected with a new day starting is the sunrise. This imagery is what the majority of my piece is related to. How the light breaks through the darkness of the night inspired the beaming rays of light and also the text. Once I saw the semi-circle shape that the sun peaking over the horizon made, I then connected that with a pregnant woman. This same idea of wanting life plays well with the two different types of imagery together.
